Let's get started with your waitlist application! You will need about 5-10 minutes. Please be prepared to pay up to a $500 deposit with your application. The deposit includes a $150 non-refundable application fee.

The remaining $350 tuition payment is refundable ONLY if you cancel your waitlist application OR if an open position does not become available. 

If a position DOES become available, the applicant will be applied to the open position and the Application and Cancellation Policies of the Regional Outward Bound School will be followed, including forfeiture of the $500 deposit if you cancel 90 days or less prior to the course start date.

Veterans Course Details


Outward Bound Veterans courses are open to active duty servicemembers and veterans of all conflicts who have deployed or have been stationed overseas as a part of their service.



Priority will be given to veterans and active duty servicemembers who have not participated on an Outward Bound Veterans course in the past or who have since re-deployed. If you have previously attended an Outward Bound Veterans course, and have not since been redeployed, you will be placed on standby status.




Based on your response, you may not be eligible for an Outward Bound for Veterans course. However, special cases may apply depending on your experience in the military. Please contact one of our Admissions Advisors at 866-467-7651 to discuss course options.

Next, we'll collect some preliminary health information about the applicant to make sure we provide the best possible support, both in preparation for course and while on course. Your responses will be kept confidential and will help determine the materials included in your course enrollment packet.

How did you learn about us?









Scholarships are available based on need and motivation and awarded on a first-come, first-served basis.  Select yes to receive an application for a scholarship from the Outward Bound School offering your course. In the event you do not qualify for a scholarship and need to withdraw your application, Outward Bound will refund your full deposit submitted with this application.  

You can use your 529 College Savings Plan to pay for your Outward Bound expedition through Western Colorado University’s Extended Studies program. Please note that in order to use your 529 plan for your Outward Bound tuition, applicable course credits must also be purchased through Western. The number of credits that can be earned is based on the length of your Outward Bound expedition. You do not have to be a current Western Colorado University student.
Applicable course credits must be purchased through Western in addition to Outward Bound tuition in order to use your 529 plan! Please refer to our 529 College Savings Plan page for more details or call the National Admissions Office at 866-467-7651 (open Monday-Friday 9am-7pm EST).

You can use your AmeriCorps Education Award to pay for an Outward Bound expedition. We accept AmeriCorps awards through Western Colorado University’s Extended Studies program. Please note that in order to use your Education Award for your Outward Bound tuition, applicable course credits must also be purchased through Western. You do not have to be a current Western Colorado University student.

To reserve a position on course, a deposit (listed below) is required at this time. This deposit is applied to the total cost of your course and includes a $150 non-refundable application fee. The remaining deposit is refundable if you cancel your application more than 90 days before the course start date or are waitlisted and a position does not become available. Outward Bound will refund your full deposit, including the $150 non-refundable application fee ONLY if you cancel your application due to lack of scholarship* or if Outward Bound cancels your course. Outward Bound will retain your full deposit, including the $150 non-refundable application processing fee if you cancel your application less than 90 days prior to the course start date.**

*All forms must be submitted by your assigned due date in order for your scholarship application to be processed. Does not include other cancel reasons such as change of mind, lack of motivation, or schedule change.

With the generous gifts of donors, courses are offered at low cost to veterans and active duty service members. This includes tuition and travel required to and from the course start location. Due to the expense of planning, staffing and provisioning crews, Outward Bound cannot recover expenses in the event of short-notice cancellations, therefore we require a $50 commitment fee at the time of enrollment. There are no additional penalties or cancellation fees in the event an applicant receives orders to deploy and cannot attend course. Applicants will be charged a $250 cancellation fee if they cancel less than 30 days before the course start date for reasons other than deployment. If Outward Bound has already purchased travel for the course, applicants will also be charged the total cost of travel.
Within two to three business days of submitting this application, you will receive a registration email from your Outward Bound course advisor. This email will include additional paperwork you'll be required to complete, to hold your spot on the course. Your ability to participate on course is contingent upon receiving accurate and complete paperwork within the timelines provided. Please contact your Outward Bound course advisor if you will need additional time to complete your required paperwork.
